A man has been charged with a number of traffic offences at Lake Macquarie.
At about 10pm, Tuesday, highway patrol officers stopped a man driving a blue Chery station wagon on Brighton Avenue for a random breath test.
Following enquiries, police established that the man was a suspended driver and breaching his bail conditions.
Police said the man refused the breath test and was arrested and taken back to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with drive motor while suspended, refuse or fail to submit to breath test and refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis.
The 43-year-old Werrington County man was refused bail and was due to attend Toronto Local Court on Wednesday.
"We will not tolerate irresponsible driving behaviour and police will continue to target alcohol related road crime and other traffic offences that puts lives at risk," Lake Macquarie commander Superintendent Daniel Sullivan said.
"As a community we need to continue the conversation around drinking and driving.
"This is an offence of choice and we need to make the right choice around this crime.
"The police are doing their part, we need everyone to step up and make the right choices."
