Plea for lonely care home residents in West Dunbartonshire to receive visitors

Action has to be taken on ensuring vulnerable and lonely care home residents can have visitors, eight months into the pandemic.

The plea was made by Labour councillor David McBride during last week’s council meeting.

He asked for officials to consider implementing “visitor pods” to ensure those who haven’t seen loved ones in the best part of a year to have some interaction.

The Dumbarton member said: “We need to be realistic and we also need to take on board that this has been ongoing for so many months now.

“We really need to have some solution.”

He suggested dedicated outdoor areas be installed in the council’s care homes or inside areas with increased sanitation and which can be easily accessed through one entrance.

His comments came as inspectors praised staff at council-run Crosslet House (above) for their quality of care with particular focus on residents’ health and wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inspectors described Crosslet as a happy care home, after witnessing first hand a very high standard of compassionate care being given to residents including affording them access to outdoor spaces during lockdown.
