Dumfries and Galloway residents are being urged to get boosted before the bells to help protect themselves against Covid.
Extra capacity and more drop-in vaccination clinics have been lined up in Dumfries and Stranraer on Hogmanay.
And anyone aged over 18 at least 12 weeks on from their second jag is being strongly encouraged to book a slot ahead of New Year.
The call comes amid strong evidence that the booster jag provides a good defence against the Omicron variant.
Vaccination co-ordinator Dr Nigel Calvert said: “As we approach the end of the year, we make this request – please, if you haven’t already received your booster, act now.
“With a huge number of people going to be exposed please do act now to reduce your risk of being admitted to hospital, potentially very seriously ill.
“The booster maximises your protection, but it is also not too late to start your vaccination journey and do book in for first or second doses.
“Please, don’t leave yourself exposed.
“Vaccination is the best protection you can have against Covid-19.
“Book your booster, or attend a drop-in, but act now and enter 2022 best prepared for the likely surge of Covid within our region.”
Dr Calvert praised the “tireless” work of NHS vaccination teams and the “amazing” response from the public to the call to get their jags.
He added: “More than 80 per cent of the adult population have so far opted to receive their booster.
“But with Omicron it’s likely only a matter of time until everyone is exposed to the virus.”
Regional NHS Chief Executive Jeff Ace also paid tribute to all staff, military personnel and volunteers for their work throughout the vaccination roll-out.
He said: “Honestly, what has been achieved here in Dumfries and Galloway is pretty incredible.
“As part of the national vaccine roll-out, in just over a year we’ve delivered 333,241 vaccinations.
“We are currently leading the way as the mainland Scottish board with the most fully vaccinated population.
“This is a great testament to the brilliant response of our amazing population who care about themselves, their loved ones and communities.
“But it’s also an incredible feat of planning, execution and tireless commitment by our vaccination teams.”
