PlayStation Plus users can try Baldur's Gate 3 for free

PlayStation Plus just got access to a game far better than any November addition to the Game Catalogue: Baldur’s Gate 3.

Subscribers to PlayStation Plus Premium with a PS5 can now try out one of the best titles of 2023 free of charge.

There’s bad news: the trial only lasts two hours. That barely gives you enough time to scratch the surface of the epic adventure that is Baldur’s Gate 3.

Website How Long to Beat suggests you can easily spend 100-plus hours on the game if you play a bit more than just the main story.

However, when Baldur's Gate 3 is still pricey to buy, a trial like this is a godsend.

PlayStation Plus has also been granted a trial of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which offers an hour of play. But where Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the year, Gollum is one of the worst reviewed and sits at 34% on Metacritic, so an hour of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum might suffice.

These trials are only available to subscribers of the top Premium tier of PlayStation Plus. This usually costs £13.49 a month or £119.99 a year, but as part of Black Friday's sales you can get a year-long sub for £83.99. The offer ends on November 27.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is part of a series that began in 1998. The first game and Baldur’s Gate 2 are considered classics of the RPG genre.

Larian Studios took over the series for Baldur’s Gate 3 after its long time away from the spotlight but the developer had plenty of experience in the genre through its Divinity series, including the much-loved Divinity: Original Sin 2 from 2017.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been praised for its well-thought-out play, letting you use your brains to get the upper hand rather than just whacking enemies with swords and spells. Read our full 4.5/5 review for more on the game.
