PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Tales of Kenzera: Zau on the day of its release

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra subscribers can play the upcoming title Tales of Kenzera: Zau free of charge on the day of its release — April 23.

The game will join the PlayStation Plus Catalogue from day one. Such releases are common on Xbox Game Pass but less on PlayStation Plus.

Subscribers to the basic PlayStation Plus Essential don’t get access to this Plus Catalogue library of hundreds of games, but others do.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is coming to PlayStation 5, but PS4 owners are out of luck. Here’s the trailer:

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is a side-scrolling action platformer with a “poignant story” about loss that mines themes not often seen in games, those of Bantu mythology.

Your character can wear masks to gain different powers, which are levelled up as you play.

The game has an interesting story behind the scenes. It’s the first game from Surgent Studios, a developer founded by actor Abubakar Salim, who voiced the character Bayek in Assassin’s Creed: Origins.

Salim says the studio has 30 employees, around one per cent of the peak numbers you might find working on a series such as Assassin’s Creed. As reported in Gamesradar, up to 2,800 people worked on the series at one point in 2023.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is not a PlayStation exclusive and will also come to Xbox Series consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC on April 23.

Sony PlayStation also announced Dave the Diver will be a day one PlayStation Plus release on April 16. However, it’s less notable as the game came out long ago on other platforms, arriving first on PC and MacOS in June 2023.

We’re still waiting to hear what other titles will come to the PlayStation Plus Catalogue in April 2024. However, we know the monthly games on all membership tiers are Minecraft Legends, Immortals of Aveum, and Skul: The Hero Slayer.
