PlayStation down: Thousands of online players face technical difficulties

PlayStation 4 users experienced technical difficulties during online play tonight.

Players in the UK were met with the "WS-37505-0 error message" when they tried to engage in the Playstation Network.

Down Detector, an independent outage monitor, received a surge of PSN down reports.

By around 7pm (UK time), there were more than 4,200 reports logged on the site.

It is believed users in the UK and other parts of Europe were affected at the login stage.

One PS4 gamer tweeted: "PSN down?"

"Is psn down," another posted.

And one wrote: "@AskPS_UK All your PSN services are down for me and my friends."

But the PlayStation team addressed the problems and normal service was resumed by around 7.40pm.

Sony hints at PlayStation 5 release date - and there's still a while to wait

In a message to one PS4 fan the Ask PlayStation UK Twitter said: "There's some fresh reports of players having troubles with parties and online play but our network is showing the all green so far: https://status.playstation.com."

It later posted: "PSN services are up and running, but there are external, internet-wide issues that may affect your experience. Once these external issues are resolved, you should have no problem connecting to PlayStation Network."

Playstation 4 was released in November 2013 but remains the latest in the Sony product franchise.

It's thought PlayStation 5 will hit the huge market next year.

When Facebook and Instagram went down in March, users were sent into a frenzied panic.

The error message read: "Oops... Something went wrong. We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can."

But Facebook denied it was hacked.

One man posted: "Facebook & Instagram are down, which means people are quickly remembering Twitter exists.
