PlayStation 5 will let you upload voice chats to Sony and report abusive players

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated gaming consoles of 2020, and now there’s just a month to go before the PlayStation 5 finally goes on sale.

Now, Sony has revealed that PS5 users will be able to upload voice chats to Sony for moderation, making it much easier to report abusive behaviour.

The new feature emerged after a warning message was added to PS4 in a software update his week.

The message reads: “We want PlayStation Network to be fun for everyone, which is why we have a Community Code of Conduct.

“Please be aware that voice chats in parties may be recorded and set to us by other users. By participating in voice chats, you agree to your voice being recorded.

“When behaviours that violate the Community Code of Conduct are reported, PlayStation Safety will review the reports to check if there have been genuine violations. These recordings will be used only for safety and moderation purposes by PlayStation Safety.”

While the message initially sparked fears that Sony would start spying on PS4 party chats, the gaming giant has confirmed that this is not the case.

It added: “Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will enable users to record their voice chats on PS5 and submit them for moderation review.

"The pop up you're seeing on PS4 right now is to let you know that when you participate in a chat with a PS5 user (post-launch), they may submit those recordings from their PS5 console to SIE."

Thankfully, there’s not long to wait before keen fans can get their hands on the PlayStation 5 themselves.

The official release date is November 12, with fans in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand South Korea able to get their hands on the console on that date.

However, it’s not good news for British PlayStation fans, who will have to wait another week to buy the PS5.

The official UK release date is November 19.

In terms of pricing, the PlayStation 5 is priced at £449.99/ $499.99 / AU$749.95, and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is slightly cheaper at $399.99 / £359.99 / AU$749.95.
