PlayStation 5 will be 'niche' console aimed at 'hardcore players', Sony CEO claims

It’s one of the most highly anticipated gaming consoles of all time, but it seems that the PlayStation 5 may not be for everyone.

Sony’s CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, has revealed that Sony’s next console (which is widely being called the PlayStation 5), will be a ‘niche’ device, aimed at ‘hardcore players.’

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Mr Yoshida claimed that the console will focus on ‘hardcore gamers who obsess over the latest features.’

He added that the console will be a ‘niche product, aimed at serious players.’

Mr Yoshida’s claims come shortly after Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, revealed that the PlayStation is ‘at the beginning of its unveil process.’

In an interview with CNET, he said: “We wanted to make sure that the PlayStation fans had clear and unambiguous information from us instead of garbled nonsense third and fourth hand - some of it true, some of it perhaps certain times less true.

“This is just the start of the unveil process.”

During the interview, Mr Ryan also shed light on some of the features we can expect in the PlayStation 5.

Could this be what the PS5 looks like?

This includes immersive surround sound audio, ultra-high definition 4K visuals at 120Hz, and significantly faster game loading times.

Mr Ryan also confirmed that Sony plans to offer ‘cross-generational play’, giving gamers the ability to play a game on their PS4 or on the new console.

Sadly, both Mr Ryan and Mr Yoshida are remaining tight-lipped on when we can expect the PlayStation 5 to launch.

However, rumours suggest that the device could be unveiled in 2020.
