It’s been over three years since Sony launched its last PlayStation console, and unsurprisingly, fans can’t wait to see what’s in store next.
While Sony has remained tight lipped about the next console, which is widely referred to as the PlayStation 5 , rumours have been widely circulating about the device.
The latest rumour gives a hint of the release date for the Playstation 5 - and it’s closer than you might think.
The rumour comes from an anonymous user on 4chan , and suggests that the console will launch on February 12, 2020.
The anonymous user claims to have this information from a ‘senior marketing manager’ at Sony, who communicated it ‘via a company email.’
A 4chan post explains: “The event is currently scheduled for 12 February 2020, and the presentation will aim to present the future of Sony PlayStation to the whole world, with the revelation of the company's new console, PlayStation 5.”
If this release date is true, it would fit in with previous PlayStation launches such as the PlayStation 4, which was revealed in February 2013.
The 4chan post comes shortly after a Swedish website put the PlayStation 5 up for pre-order, with an eye-watering price tag of 9999 Swedish Krona (£858.45).
The listing reads: “PlayStation 5 is rumoured to have third-generation AMD Ryzen processor and SSD storage. It is said to be backwards compatible with PS4 games. Pre-book today and secure PlayStation 5 upon release.”
If MediaMarkt Sweden’s price point is correct, it’s significantly higher than predictions, which indicated that the PlayStation 5 would retail at £410 ($499).
