It’s been over three years since Sony launched its last PlayStation console, and unsurprisingly, fans are eager to see what the gaming giant has in store for us next.
Now, Jim Ryan , CEO of PlayStation, has revealed that the highly-anticipated console is finally on its way.
In an interview with CNET , Mr Ryan revelled that the console, which is widely referred to as the PlayStation 5 (although Sony is yet to confirm the name), is ‘at the beginning of its unveil process.’
He said: “We wanted to make sure that the PlayStation fans had clear and unambiguous information from us instead of garbled nonsense third and fourth hand - some of it true, some of it perhaps certain times less true.
“This is just the start of the unveil process.”
During the interview, Mr Ryan also shed light on some of the features we can expect in the PlayStation 5.
This includes immersive surround sound audio, ultra-high definition 4K visuals at 120Hz, and significantly faster game loading times.
Mr Ryan also confirmed that Sony plans to offer ‘cross-generational play’, giving gamers the ability to play a game on their PS4 or on the new console.
He added: “Whether it's backwards compatibility or the possibility of cross-generational play, we'll be able to transition that community to next-gen.
“It won't be a binary choice about whether you have to be ether on PlayStation 4 or next-gen to continue your friendship.”
Sadly, Mr Ryan remained tight-lipped on when we can expect the PlayStation 5 to officially launch - watch this space!
