PlayStation 5: Is it worth it to buy an M.2 SSD to increase your storage space?

One of the biggest upgrades the PlayStation 5 provided over the PlayStation 4 was the inclusion of a solid-state drive, which slashes load times in games and is perhaps the most “next-gen” of all the features on the new console.

The one big problem? The included PS5 SSD only leaves you with 667 gigabytes of available space to install games and apps, and store your saved data and media. If you’re a Call of Duty player in particular, you know that amount of storage isn’t going to get you very far.

If you find yourself always running out of storage space, there is an opportunity to upgrade. Every PS5 includes an expansion bay hidden away under the faceplate where you can install an M.2 SSD.

Is it worth it to shell out more than $100 to add storage space to the PS5? We tested out the Samsung 980 PRO, which comes with an included heatsink, and found that the accessory is every bit as essential as a headset or second controller.
