PlayStation 5 controller leaked in new images - and they confirm this key feature

It’s one of the most highly anticipated gaming consoles of all time, and now new images may have given us a hint at the PlayStation 5’s controller.

The images, which claim to be from a game publisher employee’s Facebook page, show both a controller and the PS5 devkit.

The controller seen in the images appears to be very similar to the current DualShock 4 controller, but has a key feature that has already been rumoured.

For example, the controller appears to feature a large touchscreen in the middle of the device, alongside the standard directional buttons and triangle, circle, cross and square buttons.

While other details remain unclear from the images, Sony has already confirmed several other features for the controller.

In a blog back in October, Jim Ryan, President and CEO at Sony Interactive Entertainment, explained that the PS5 controller will feature both haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

He explained: “There are two key innovations with PlayStation 5’s new controller. First, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles.

“With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.

“The second innovation is something we call adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2).

“Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions.

“Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal.”

Unfortunately, there’s still a bit of wait before we finally get to see the PlayStation 5 and its controller - they’re set to launch in Holiday 2020.
