PlayStation 5: Amazon fires driver who drove off with boy's birthday PS5

This month, eager gamers have been treated to not just one, but two brand new consoles.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X hit shelves earlier this month, and were quickly snapped up.

Unfortunately, several people who pre-ordered the PlayStation 5 on Amazon reported their consoles going missing, or being replaced with other items.

One such customer was Jenni Walker, an Oxfordshire mum who had brought a PS5 as a 16th birthday present for her son.

The Walker family caught footage on their CCTV camera of a courier appearing to handle a large PS5-shaped box at the back of his van, delivering other packages but keeping that one.

Following the incident, the Walker family contacted Amazon, who said it would investigate the incident.

But when Amazon simply offered a gift voucher as compensation, the Walker’s daughter took matters into her own hands, driving in person tot he local Amazon depot and confronting the site’s boss.

Having watched the CCTV footage, the site boss confirmed that the driver was one of his employees, and said they would be fired.

Speaking to Oxford Mail, Amazon said: “We have very high standards for our delivery service providers and how they serve customers. The delivery associate will no longer be delivering on behalf of Amazon.”

Unfortunately, the Walkers have had to restart their search for a PS5, which could prove tricky.

The news comes shortly after some Amazon PS5 customers reported receiving kitchen appliances instead of their console.

Freelance journalist Bex April May claims that she was sent an air fryer instead of her PS5.

She tweeted an unveiling video, writing: “Happy #PS5 day everyone. Tried to document our one’s unveiling, but Amazon have tricked us with an unsolicited air fryer instead (after giving delivery password). Anyone else had this problem today?

Bex says that her delivery was fake ‘missed’ earlier in the day, and believes her PS5 may have been ‘siphoned off’.

She added: “Delivery was fake ‘missed’ at midday with a ‘we couldn’t deliver’ message (with no attempt at delivery made). Now looks like it was siphoned off then before reappearing this evening, replaced with an air fryer inside.”
