Playoff Rewind: Warriors cap historic 16-1 postseason run to win 2017 championship

After seven consecutive trips to the NBA playoffs with five Finals appearances, the Golden State Warriors will miss the postseason in 2020. The Warriors are one of eight teams not taking part in the NBA’s 22 team stretch run leading into the playoffs in Orlando.

With no basketball on the Bay Area schedule, Warriors Wire is rewinding through Golden State’s postseason catalog to highlight standout performances, memorable moments, and matchups worthy of a rewatch.

In 2017, the Warriors closed out a historic run to the NBA championship.

June 12, 2017

Leading up to game four of the 2017 playoffs, the Golden State Warriors broke off 15 straights wins. With the chance of sweeping the Cavaliers and going undefeated in the playoffs, the Warriors fell in Cleveland, 137-116.

With another chance in game five, Golden State didn’t miss in Oracle Arena. Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 39 points on 14-of-20 shooting. The future Finals MVP recorded five assists and six boards. Stephen Curry followed Durant with 34 points on 10-of-20 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers and 10 assists. In 38 minutes off the bench, Andre Iguodala added 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting with four rebounds.

Despite LeBron James scoring 41 points with Kyrie Irving and J.R. Smith each tallying over 25 points, it wasn’t enough for the championship bound Warriors. Golden State stamped their second championship in three seasons, 129-120.

The 2017 Warriors 16-1 playoff run is the best postseason winning percentage mark in NBA history at .941%.
