Playoff hopes lost, Bears put LB Danny Trevathan on injured reserve

Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan’s elbow bent the wrong direction Nov. 10 against the Lions, but he never went on injured reserve, holding out hope he could return late this season for a relevant game.

It’s not happening. Three days after being eliminated from playoff contention, the Bears put Trevathan on IR. They promoted cornerback Michael Joseph, an Oswego High School alum, from the practice squad to take his place. They signed receiver Alex Wesley to the practice squad.

Trevathan might have played his final down with the Bears — his contract expires at the end of the season. He’s as well-respected as any player in the locker room. The cap-conscious Bears could consider a short-term deal for him, though he could probably get more money elsewhere.
