Playground Festival announce new dates with Culture Club, The Libertines and Glasvegas added to line-up

Culture Club, The Libertines and Glasvegas are just some of the big names joining the Playground Festival in Glasgow as a revised line up and new dates are confirmed.

Rouken Glen Park in the south of the city will play host to the festival over the weekend of September 24 to 26 this year.

The new dates and line up come after the festival was announced in December last year with the coronavirus pandemic putting original plans into doubt.

The Libertines, Culture Club, Orbital, Glasvegas, Razorlight, Macy Gray, Kathy Sledge, Franc Moody, The Shambolics, The Reflex have been announced along with Friday night special guests James and Sunday night headliner, Nile Rodgers and CHIC.

More acts are to be announced including a special Saturday night guest.

Festival fans who bought tickets for the cancelled 2020 event had the option of keeping their tickets for this year while others can buy tickets from this Friday.

Speaking after the line-up announcement Nile Rodgers said: “It's always Good Times for us with the incredible people of Glasgow. As you can imagine after almost 18 months of being at home we are going to make this special for all of us.”

As a result of the reschedule Gary Numan, Jon Hopkins, Kelis, Kraftwerk, Neneh Cherry, Pictish Trail, Underworld and The Wailers will no longer be able to appear as part of this year’s festival.

Playground Festival’s Ashleigh Elliott said: “With the date change and the ongoing global challenges, like many other festivals we have had to make changes to our line-up. We worked really hard to bring you our 2020 line-up in 2021 but unfortunately, some of our friends can no longer make the rescheduled September date.

“We are thrilled to announce our carefully curated line-up for Playground 2021, which we hope you will love as much as we do. We have added a truly spectacular array of our favourite artists to bring you an incredible weekend showcasing the eclectic sound of our Playground.

“Rock and roll poets, The Libertines and British dance music royalty Orbital headline our Friday night, while pop heavyweights Culture Club and a very special guest headline on Saturday with all three days showcasing the best of the amazing new talent Scotland has to offer.

“Many of you supported us by rolling over your tickets from 2020, for which we are truly grateful. We know this is a big change from our original line-up, but we’re sure everyone will be ready to party with us in September and hope that the Playground family are as excited by our 2021 line-up as we are.

“We are of course working within all current guidelines to deliver a safe festival full of sensational tunes performed by amazing artists for you all to enjoy – and we can’t wait to see you in our park over September Weekend”.
