Playground Festival 2021 announce James as special guest for Rouken Glen show

Playground Festival has announced another special guest to the 2021 line-up.

Manchester band James will be taking to the stage at Rouken Glen Park on Friday, July 30.

They join the previously announced Underworld, Hot Chip and Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5.

Across the weekend, the likes of Kraftwerk 3D, Gary Numan, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Kelis and Neneh Cherry will be performing at the festival.

James frontman Tim Booth said: “We are very happy to be playing the Playground Festival sandwiched in between Underworld and Leftfield.

“Underworld have created some of my favourite tracks - at least one will be danced to at my funeral - they are true pioneers of new musical forms that deepen with age.”

2021 will mark the second year of the festival which saw performances fro Groove Armada, Friendly Fires and Lauryn Hill in 2019.

Organisers had to cancel this summer's event in light of the coronavirus pandemic but have promised that next year's weekend will be bigger and better than ever.

Tickets are on sale now priced £59 per day or £159 for full three-day weekend, with a three-day VIP upgrade just £80 (all prices plus booking fee).

Ashleigh Elliott of Playground Festival said: “We are thrilled to reveal our Special Guests, welcoming James to Rouken Glen Park.

“James are one of the best festival bands of all time, with an incredible array of sing-along anthems our family will love.

“We believe this is the best festival line-up of 2021 and judging by ticket sales, our festival family agree. So don’t hang about – buy now because this event WILL sell out.”
