A blind Jack Russell, who had to have both eyes removed due to glaucoma, is looking for a forever home.
As reported by WalesOnline, Rosie was already blind when she arrived at Hope Rescue Centre in Pontyclun, South Wales. However, due to her painful condition, the decision was made to remove her eyes all together.
Despite having to go through such a traumatic illness at just two and a half years old, Rosie is a confident canine who just needs to find the right home.
A spokesperson at the rescue centre said: “Rosie does require some extra attention on walkies due to her lack of vision to avoid her bumping into things or falling off curbs. But Rosie manages remarkably well, and her foster home has been working hard to teach her cues to let her know what’s coming up. It does not take her long to map out her surroundings.”
Rosie is hoping to find experienced owners with a secure garden she can explore, and would prefer to be the only dog in her new home - that said, she’d love a calm canine that she could buddy up with on walks.
The charity added: “Rosie will react at passing traffic so will need to be walked away from roads and although she's very eager to get in the car she is easily stressed when travelling.
“She will make a wonderful addition to the right home, who can look past her disability and see the active and playful side of her but also the sensitive girl that does need reassurance in a noisy world.
“Rosie is wary of new people and does need to be gently introduced to them but with the help of a few treats it doesn’t take her long to get used to a new person, once she knows you she is very affectionate but does prefer not to be picked up.”
The young terrier wouldn’t be able to live with children under the age of 14, or with any small animals like cats and hamsters due to a high prey drive.
Hope Rescue added: “Rosie has a high prey drive so needs a home without any small furries or cats and owners will need to be mindful on walks as despite having no vision she is happy to engage in a chase.”
