Fantasy engagement platform PlayerX has locked in a Presenting Partner role for the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend 2026, placing an interactive fantasy gaming experience at the center of the CDL's most important event of the season.
What PlayerX is actually doing at Champs
PlayerX, built by World Champion Fantasy, Inc. (WCF), is self-desribed as an "all-in-one fan engagement destination." For Champs Weekend, it's put together a dedicated fantasy gaming hub that lets users build lineups from active CDL pros competing in Las Vegas. Official live match streams and real-time statistics are built-into the platform, giving fans the chance to track their fantasy rosters alongside the actual broadcast without switching between apps.
The field and format, explained
The eight teams competing at Champs are:
| Seed | Team |
|---|---|
| 1 | OpTic Texas |
| 2 | Los Angeles Thieves |
| 3 | FaZe Vegas |
| 4 | Paris Gentle Mates |
| 5 | Toronto KOI |
| 6 | G2 Minnesota |
| 7 | Riyadh Falcons |
| 8 | Miami Heretics |
Series are played best-of-five throughout the bracket, with the grand final extending to a best-of-nine. Map pool covers three game types:
- Hardpoint
- Overload
- Search & Destroy
The game types will be played across a rotation of Black Ops 7 maps including Gridlock, Hacienda, Den, and Scar.
The broadcast lineup features popular casters Thomas "Chance" Ashworth, Miles Ross, Clint "Maven" Evans, Alan "IHOLDSHIFT" Donofrio, Joe "MerK" DeLuca and Jeremy "StuDyy" Astacio. Chris "Puckett" Puckett and Guy "Blaze" Spencer are hosting. Analysts Anthony "NAMELESS" Wheeler, Rosalie "Rosalie" Parker and Dillon "Attach" Price round out the desk.
Results so far show Paris Gentle Mates and OpTic Texas both in action, with Paris defeating Toronto KOI 3-0 in early bracket play.

The PlayerX activation fits a well-established pattern for esports events: audiences are kept switched-on between matches, as well as during slower periods of a multi-day tournament when there isn’t much going on, by fantasy and interactive second-screen tools. Viewer retention across a four-day bracket is a real challenge, and layering fantasy competition on top of live action gives fans a personal stake in every series, not just the grand final.
It's a smart fit for Champs specifically. With eight teams competing across days one through four, there's substantial time in the schedule when casual viewers might drift. A fantasy hub tied to live stats and the official stream goes a long way to solving this problem.
Writer's take
The PlayerX deal might not seem huge in scope compared to top-tier presenting sponsorships but the product itself fits the audience just fine. CDL fans already track player stats obsessively so giving them a sanctioned fantasy layer with real-time data integration during the season's biggest weekend is the kind of thing that should convert casual viewers into engaged platform users who keep coming back for more.
The $2 million prize pool sounds big but it’s the same as prior CDL championships. And with production still in ESL FACEIT Group's hands, the core event experience stays the same, too. If something ain’t broke – don’t fix it.
The grand final is scheduled for July 19. Full bracket results and VODs will be available through official CDL channels.
The four-day tournament is underway now at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Eight franchised teams are competing through a double-elimination bracket for a $2 million prize pool, with all matches played on Black Ops 7. Tickets remain available for the event, listed through AXS for attendees 16 and over.
