Players' relationship with Cricket Australia intact: Smith

Australian captain Steve Smith says the players' relationship with cricket's governing body has not been damaged by a bitter pay dispute.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the players union and Cricket Australia was reached this month, after protracted and acrimonious negotiations.

The Test squad flies to Bangladesh today for a two-test series, although the tour was threatened by the pay crisis and even the Ashes were cast in doubt.

"We're through the challenging time of the MOU, we've moved on from that now," Smith said.

"It probably dragged on for a little bit longer than we would've liked but it was great to get a deal done and enable us to tour Bangladesh."

A go-between during the dispute, Smith admitted it was tough for him personally.

"I had to talk with Cricket Australia and the ACA (Australian Cricketers Association) on behalf of the players so I was having lots of conversations behind the scenes."

"I think I learnt a lot from it."

Australia's Test side has not toured Bangladesh for more than a decade and the last scheduled tour, in 2015, was abandoned amid fears over the team's security.

Smith said he is comfortable with the level of security.

"The guys have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes," he said.

"Our two security guards are over there now."

Australia will play a tour match before the first Test in Dhaka from August 27.
