Players Newcastle United tipped to sign as transfer deadline day enters final hours

Newcastle United are primed to be the busiest club in Europe on Deadline Day of the January transfer window.

After confirming the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon yesterday evening, the Magpies are now looking to complete a few more signings before 11pm.

Dan Burn’s £13m switch from Brighton seems to just be awaiting confirmation while Matt Targett is at the training ground completing a medical ahead of his loan move from Aston Villa.

Just this morning, it was announced that Reims had accepted a bid between £20m and £25m from Newcastle for 19-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike.

All of those signings would represent great business from Amanda Staveley and the rest of the ownership group as they hope to keep the club in the Premier League.

While it would take a monumental Deadline Day effort from everyone involved with these deals at St James’ Park, there might still be further incomings.

A number of players will continue to be linked throughout the rest of the day with everyone fully aware of the spending power on Tyneside.

Grosvenor Casino are offering odds on 15 players to be signed by Newcastle ahead of the deadline and we have taken a look at each of them, ranking from least likely to most likely.

Eden Hazard – 20/1

As we have learned since the takeover was completed back in October, plenty of rumours have to be taken with a pinch of salt and this is certainly one of them.

The former Chelsea star has struggled since moving to Real Madrid but it is extremely hard to see Newcastle move for him today.

Raphinha – 18/1

The Leeds wideman has been linked with a move away from Elland Road in the last couple of days but, with his contract talks progressing, he won’t be going anywhere today.

Alexis Sanchez – 16/1

Like Hazard, Alexis Sanchez’s excellent quality has fallen away slightly in the last few years but he has been good for Inter Milan recently and they won’t want to lose any players as they look to retain the Serie A title.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 16/1

Liverpool might be looking to shift a few of their fringe players after announcing their signing of Luis Diaz and could look to source a late move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

However, it is hard to imagine Newcastle would be interested after bringing Guimaraes to the club.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 16/1

The Magpies are clearly interested in signing another striker before the window closes but a move for anyone who isn’t Ekitike will hinge on negotiations with the young Frenchman.

Ben Brereton Diaz – 14/1

After bursting onto the scene with Blackburn and Chile, Ben Brereton Diaz continues to be linked with a Premier League move. With Rovers very much in the hunt for promotion, they won’t have any interest whatsoever in letting him leave today.

Dele Alli – 14/1

Dele Alli has fallen out of favour at Tottenham and really needs a move to revitalise his career. He was heavily linked with Newcastle a couple of weeks ago but a Tyneside switch now looks pretty much dead in the water.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 11/1

A fall out with Mikel Arteta looks to have ended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s time at Arsenal despite him being the club captain.

He is likely to be on the move today and with only 1/8 odds being offered for him to agree a loan deal with Barcelona, Newcastle are not in the running.

Aaron Ramsey – 11/1

Aaron Ramsey is a player who has been heavily linked with a move to the North East but the demands of Juventus made it extremely unlikely.

The former Arsenal man looks set to leave the Italian giants today.

Eddie Nketiah – 9/1

Eddie Nketiah is another Gunners striker who looks set to leave North London either today or in the summer.

His contract runs out at the end of the season and he has no interest in extending it which makes him a cheap alternative if anything goes wrong with the move for Ekitike.

Ross Barkley – 9/1

At one stage earlier in the transfer window, Ross Barkley looked as though he would be on the move, at least on loan. However, he looks set to stay at Chelsea as none of the reported interested clubs were willing to match the demands of the European champions.

Sven Botman – 9/1

There were real hopes that Sven Botman would be the marquee signing of the window at St James’ Park but Lille were unwilling to let him leave, even for €50m.

GFFN have reported, as a result of Fabrizio Romano’s comments, that he will speak on his future this evening after he was said to be disappointed to see a move to Newcastle turned away by the French champions.

James Tarkowski – 3/1

Burnley will not want to do any business with Newcastle after they triggered Wood’s release clause earlier this month.

In doing so, the Clarets risk losing James Tarkowski for free in the summer, a risk they are willing to take if it helps them in their battle against relegation.

Jesse Lingard – 5/2

Similarly to Tarkowski, Jesse Lingard is out of contract in the summer which is making a move from Manchester United extremely difficult.

The Red Devils understandably only want him to leave on a permanent basis but Newcastle want a loan which would work to be very costly. Worth keeping half an eye on this one.

Dean Henderson – 4/5

This is viewed by Grosvenor Casino as the most likely deal (outside of Burn, Targett and Ekitike) to happen at Newcastle before the window closes.

The Manchester Evening News claimed the Magpies are working on a potential loan deal for the goalkeeper after he has struggled for game time at Old Trafford.

It is understood Eddie Howe is interested in introducing competition for Martin Dubravka in the squad and considering the Slovakian’s age, a move for Henderson would certainly have the future in mind.
