Former Nottingham Forest boss Martin O’Neill is unlikely to find a route back into football with Celtic, if Neil Lennon’s comments are anything to go by.
O’Neill was axed from his role at the City Ground last Friday after little more than five months at the helm, with Sabri Lamouchi quickly announced as his replacement.
The Northern Irishman had plenty of success during his five years in charge of the Hoops from 2000 to 2005, and worked with current manager Lennon both at the Scottish giants and Leicester City.
Lennon was appointed on a permanent basis at Celtic Park for the second time this summer, following a caretaker stint when Brendan Rodgers switched to Leicester City.
But the club are still to appoint a full-time head of recruitment, and Lennon was asked with his old mentor could be brought in alongside him as director of football.
The ex-Reds midfielder also commented on O’Neill’s dismissal by the Championship side.
“I was very surprised. I don’t know where that came from,” he said.

“But it just shows you the rapid nature of it all because there was a new coach in place 20 minutes later.
“Something about that doesn’t sit right with me.
“A player revolt can be an easy excuse. I’m not aware of any evidence of that whatsoever.
“I hope he gets back in (to football). He’s only in his mid-60s and you know what I think of him as a manager. It’s whether he fancies it.
“Could he come back here in some role? He is fed up of telling me what to do. He’s been doing it for 25 years!
“That would be an interesting one, but it’s not on the horizon.”
