Play suspended Wednesday at Augusta National due to inclement weather ahead of Masters first round

The annual Par 3 Contest held the Wednesday before the opening round of the Masters was canceled last month.

Even if it were still held today, it would’ve been canceled after play was suspended at Augusta National Golf Club early Wednesday afternoon “due to approaching inclement weather.”

As if racing against the sunset due to shorter November days wasn’t a big enough hurdle to climb for this year’s Masters, mother nature has plans to rain on golf’s major parade all week long.

Thursday’s first round will be contested with a forecast (as of 3:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday) of 100 percent rain and a 5:26 p.m. ET sunset. From weather.com:

Thunderstorms likely in the morning. Then a chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High around 80F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 100%. Locally heavy rainfall possible.

As of the time of this post, Friday through Sunday’s forecast featured just a 20 percent chance of rain.
