Platinum Jubilee weekend: Will there be any travel disruptions in London over the bank holiday?

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend is right around the corner, with four days of special events and celebrations across the capital.

From Thursday June 2 to Sunday June 5 London will be abuzz with activity to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70th year as monarch – meaning you will need a solid plan to get around.

Some stops along your route may be disrupted by station closures, road closures and route changes to public transport so plan ahead where possible.

Here’s all you need to know about getting around London this Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, by tube, car, bus or foot:

Which stations will be closed?

TfL have confirmed that all of their Tube and rail services will running as usual over the bank holiday weekend.

Some lines may be closed to redirect crowds after popular events such as the BBC concert on Saturday night and on Sunday during the day.

On Saturday Charing Cross and St James’s Park station will be closed after 3pm.

Hyde Park station will only allow exits after 4pm and is planned to close after 9pm.

On Sunday June 5 St James’s Park will close earlier from 1pm.

Westminster will close entry and exit points from 10am on Sunday, only allowing changes between Circle, District and Jubilee lines.

Planned strike action on Friday June 3 has been called off, so stations Green Park and Euston will be open as usual on the second day of the bank holiday.Strike action may still take place on Monday June 6 after the end of the four-day weekend.

Which night tubes are running extra services on Thursday and Friday?

Night Tube services will be running on the Central, Jubilee and Victoria lines on Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4.

What TfL buses are running over the bank holiday weekend?

Most London buses will be running as normal over the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Other bus companies may be running reduced services.

Arriva has advised customers to check their routes in specific regions while FirstGroup routes has confirmed a Sunday service for Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June.

Are there any road closures?

Central London will be packed with parties and events – so avoid driving through the middle of the capital if possible.

Alternative routes should be planned to avoid the area.

Can I cycle in London over the bank holiday weekend?

Cycle routes may be closed or diverted to avoid crowds – and some places may prohibit bikes altogether.
