Plate Day's Best Dressed Man at Newcastle Racecourse is not wearing any trousers

While the big accolade of the day was of course the Northumberland Plate there was some stiff competition for another title at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday.

And that was the race to be crowned Best Dressed Male at Plate Day .

Scouts were on the look out all day for well turned out gents and, hot on the heels of the presentation of the Plate, the final five lads lined up in the winners enclosure to find out if they’d been victorious.

Sponsored by Boldon suit company Master Debonaire, this year’s competition was hotly contested and the winner was David Carr, who looked extremely smart in a shirt, waistcoat and kilt combo.

David, 29, is from Aberfeldy in Scotland and had headed down to Newcastle with some friends for the waistcoat. He won a Master Debonaire suit worth £250 and premier tickets for another race day.

He revealed to ChronicleLive that his winning kilt was bought from a company in Perth and, while admitting he never came to the Racecourse expecting to win Best Dressed Male, he would be doing some celebrating to mark his victory!
