Plantasia in Swansea is re-opening to the public

Plantasia in Swansea is re-opening to the public having been closed for months since the start of the coronavirus lockdown.

The popular facility, managed by Parkwood Leisure for Swansea Council, will throw open its doors on Saturday, July 18.

However, things will be slightly different as the re-opening of the Parc Tawe facility will take place in line with Government restrictions.

Pre-booking is essential and a one-way system is in place.

There will also be social distancing guidance and hand sanitising points will be available.

General manager, Anthony Williams, said: “We’re delighted that we can welcome our public back – and we’ll make every attempt possible to make their visits as safe as possible.

“There will be marked routes around the venue to help, protective screens where needed and a reorganised programme of activities.

“There will be an intensive on-going sanitising programme in high contact areas and arrangements to encourage social distancing in interactive areas.

“Many of our 160-plus animals have missed public interaction, with only staff to socialise with, but we’ve kept them in great condition along with the vast array of exotic greenery.”

Earlier this month, Anthony spoke out about the work the team did to keep the animals happy and entertained while the public were unable to visit.

Daily tasks undertaken on site to maintain the correct environment for the animals and plants include hours of watering plants, animal feeding, enclosure cleaning, temperature regulation and safety checks.

A £1.1m improvement package funded by the council and invested by Parkwood Leisure has brought an engaging new look and attractions to the venue.

The council has put in place a support package to help council-owned leisure services such as Plantasia through the pandemic.

Plantasia will be open daily from 10am-5pm from Saturday, July 18
