Plans unveiled for empty Mansfield pub Starbucks considered taking over

Plans have been put forward for a vacant Nottinghamshire pub which Starbucks had considered taking over. The Pheasant Inn in Mansfield, which has been empty for years, could be revamped as part of plans to have a new business set up in the building.

Under the proposals, submitted to Mansfield District Council, the first and second floor would be turned into three one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment. The site is not in a conservation area and the pub is not a listed building, but the applicant behind the project said minimal external changes would be made.

The site has been empty due little or no interest from investors according to planning documents, and as such the owner wants to upgrade the interior and get the site back in use. The owner tried to market the building after the pub's closure, but said the only interest was from Starbucks in 2021, which never amounted to anything.

The building has been empty since 2019 according to The Lost Pubs Project website, with the owner now looking to use its "full potential" by changing its use to business space and housing. The wide range of listed potential uses includes shops, cafés, restaurants, and offices.

In a planning document, AK Innovative Design Solution on behalf of applicant Ricky Dhir, said: "The change of use will help the site and the local population with an opportunity to cater for [a] wide range of business which can be operated here.

"Careful consideration has been given to the site and the context of the surrounding area in designing the proposed scheme. Development should be acceptable in a sustainable area with [a] scheme [that] is of a good quality standard."
