Plans to turn bank into takeaway approved after numerous failed bids

Plans for a hot food takeaway at a former bank have been waved through by North Ayrshire Council's planning committee.

Mohammad Jawad put through an application for the change of use of the former Bank of Scotland premises in Eglinton Street, Beith to a hot food takeaway to include the erection of ventilation flue to rear.

He bought the property four years ago and had two previous applications rejected, one of which for another hot food takeaway as it was contrary to the previous local plan.

However, the new Local Plan supports town centres under Local Development Plan 2 and Post-Covid, there has been a downturn in occupancy of shops and offices in Beith, resulting in planners supporting the venture.

Planning Officer James Miller said: “The applicant has no specified hours but we propose a condition it will be open from noon until 9pm which would see daytime footfall. It meets all the specifications in terms of odour control and noise.”

The application was granted subject to conditions, following a motion by councillor Timothy Billings.
