Plans to transform dilapidated Irvine pub into six new homes moving forward

Plans to breathe new life into the former King’s Arms Hotel in Irvine are moving forward.

The derelict town centre landmark looks set to be transformed into six new homes as part of North Ayrshire Council’s housing programme.

The six amenity properties will be a mix of one and two-bedroom homes with redevelopment work currently scheduled to get underway next autumn.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, cabinet member for Green New Deal and sustainability, believes the transformation will respect the building’s listed status.

He said: “The King’s Arms Hotel will be fondly remembered by many but unfortunately has fallen into disrepair since closing a number of years ago.

“Given its key location, it gives us an opportunity to breathe new life into Irvine town centre as part of our regeneration plans whilst preventing an important building from continuing to deteriorate or being lost forever.”

Originally dating from the early 19th century, the King’s Arms Hotel is a Category C Listed building and is located within the Irvine town centre conservation area.

Members of the public can view and comment on the draft plans from Monday, November 15 until Friday, December 10 online at http://www.northayrshire.community/consultations/

An online draft plans consultation event is also being held on Thursday, December 2 with appointments available between 4pm and 6pm. To book a place, email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or call (01294) 324031 by Monday, November 29.
