Plans to prevent removal of Old Beech tree in St Catherine's Park being assessed by Fingal County Council

New options are being looked into to preserve the Old Beech tree in St Catherine's Park, Lucan.

The iconic tree was due to be cut down on Saturday 8th February, due to its declining health.

However, Fingal County Council says alternative options are being looked into, to replace the current plan of removing the tree entirely.

FCC said on social media "These options would allow the tree to die back naturally but to also ensure the safety of park users."

The 270-year-old tree is located on the southern side of the pathway which runs along the floodplain.

The decision was made to cut the tree down after a series of tests were conducted.

While it was deemed necessary to cut the tree down, professional staff are now looking at alternative options.
