As you put on your fourth layer of clothes to fend off the cold as another rainy October reaches its end, you may not immediately turn your minds to beach volleyball.
The sport — now a long-standing Olympic event — may have a greater association with the west coast of America than Scotland, but it has started to take off, with a bona fide club and lessons for schoolkids.
Schools have been working with local clubs West Coast Beach Basketball and Caledonia West, with events at Ayr and Troon beaches.
Now, the growing acceptance of the sport is set to be officially recognised with plans to create not one, but two beach volleyball courts in Ayr — albeit 1.7 miles from the sandy shores themselves.
Kyle Academy is set to become home to the sport in South Ayrshire, with a consultation being launched by the council.
In its consultation, the council states that the move doesn't require planning permission, but that the proposals are being shared with the community for feedback.
The council states: "The proposals for the creation of two beach volleyball courts within the grounds of Kyle Academy, Ayr are being shared to provide the local community and interested parties with an opportunity to view and comment on the proposed plans.
"Please note the courts will not be floodlit.
"These courts are being developed in collaboration with Scottish Volleyball and this is an exciting opportunity to provide championship standard courts within South Ayrshire.
"We are hoping to have the courts completed by spring 2022."
