Plans to make changes to Ayr Hospital's vital cancer ward Station 15 are put on hold

Plans to downgrade our vital chemotherapy ward have been put on hold, for now at least.

Last month, before the coronavirus lockdown, we handed over our petition for all existing Station 15 services to be retained to health bosses.

A whopping 16,061 of you backed the campaign for proposals to move any services to Crosshouse to be stopped immediately.

We handed the signatures over to MP Allan Dorans who was picking them up on behalf of the Minister for Public Health Joe Fitzpatrick and a decision was set to be made by the health board on March 30.

But as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to sweep the nation, those plans were put on hold.

An NHS Ayrshire & Arran spokesman said: “As an NHS Board during the current COVID-19 situation, we had to change our Board meeting arrangements for March 30.

“In these times our focus is on planning for the virus and therefore the Board will not be considering material issues of change or service work and this will pause until the Board is able to return to more normal working.”

The services at Station 15 live to fight another day – some light in these dark times.
