Plans to house asylum seekers in a hotel in Co Mayo have been shelved, according to reports.
Thirteen female migrants were due to move in to emergency accommodation at the Achill Head Hotel on Friday.
Further plans were in place to temporarily house a total of 38 asylum seekers at the site in the coming weeks.
Achill locals reported that conditions at the direct provision site were not suitable for asylum seekers.
Photos seen by the Irish Mirror show mould on external windows and general untidiness in the site surrounding the premises.
The Irish Mirror has not seen any photographs of the inside of the hotel.
Recent Tripadvisor posts from September reviewed the hotel in a positive manner.
A peaceful protest bemoaning the standard of the facilities was held in the Achill area recently.
According to RTE, the Department of Justice has blamed these 'protests' for shelving the plans.
In a statement the Department of Justice said that because of "an ongoing protest remaining in place outside the hotel ... the Department has regrettably decided that, at the moment, to ask the women to move there would not be in their best interests, as they may be vulnerable while awaiting decisions on their protection applications".
Management at the Achill Head Hotel have been contacted for comment in relation to the publication of this report.
