There are major plans to improve the facilities at Filton Golf Course which would include a nine-hole pitch and putt course and a driving range.
A planning application has been submitted to both Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils as the site straddles the authority boundaries.
The 18-hole golf course, located off Golf Course Lane behind the BAWA Club, was founded in 1909.
But now plans are in place to “dramatically improve” the existing practice facilities at the club and create a multi-functional practice facility which will be the “first of its kind” in the UK.
Proposals include constructing a three hole Par 3 golf course, a nine-hole pitch and putt course with a driving range as well as a pitching area and putting green.
There are also plans for a new putting green, based on the world renowned “Himalayas” putting course at the ‘Home of Golf’, St Andrews Links in Scotland.
According to the design summary: “It would be a tremendous additional amenity for the general population of Filton.”
The work also includes filling in two existing ponds on the site and there are also plans to construct a 1.6km running/cycling track around the practice facility which would be open for use for both members and the general public.
The design statement says: “Currently a number of rights of way allow members of the general public to cross the golf course and with this walking \ cycling \ jogging track it would be hoped that users of the rights of way would utilise the new pathway and reduce interaction between the golfers.
“It is hoped this development would help improve the Health & Safety aspect of these activities being in close proximity to one another.”
