Plans to demolish former Kirkstall supermarket site to build over 250 homes

Details on plans to convert the site of a former supermarket into a block of more than 250 properties in Kirkstall are set to go before Leeds City Council planning chiefs.

The site, in Kirkstall Hill, is subject to an application to demolish existing buildings and replace them with 263 apartments and “townhouses”.

The largest building on the site is a former supermarket, currently occupied by the Harvard Mills discount DIY store.

Plans include 183 apartments, ranging from one to two beds; and 80 townhouses, from two to four beds. Developers also promise cycle storage, cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points.

The proposals are being brought before Leeds City Council’s city plans panel by Artisan Leeds Kirkstall Ltd, to invite councillors to comment on viability and highways issues related to the site.

A report put together by Leeds City Council officers reads: “This scheme is considered a significant regeneration opportunity that could contribute positively to the regeneration of the site and provide a quality development.”

No final decision is expected to be made on the plans and a full application will go back before plans panel at a later date.
