Plans to demolish 'dangerous' fire-ravaged Kilmarnock house where man died

Plans are being forged to demolish a Kilmarnock home where a man died in a fire.

No 5 Orchard Street was decimated by a blaze in December 2016 and now East Ayrshire Council planners want to raze the former dwelling.

Seven fire crews tackled the inferno at the house two days before Christmas almost five years ago but the sole occupant could not be saved.

The red sandstone terraced property has no roof and is boarded up following the fire.

The property was previously highlighted in a council report of dangerous buildings throughout the region.

The fire-damaged roof was removed by the council.

Now the local authority is planning to tear down the unsafe building.

The report states: "No 5 Orchard Street was badly fire damaged previously and remains partly in place between No.3 and No.7 Orchard Street.

"The property shall be demolished in its entirety before treating the gables either end which will be retained."

Council planners will rule on the application at a future date.
