A council services building has been earmarked for demolition and redevelopment.
The Moss View Centre, in Partington, is currently home to the council’s school meals services, including its free schools meals services.
The plan is for the teams based in the building to be relocated to the Trafford Park council depot, if this is deemed financially viable for the authority.
The plan to ‘seek to vacate this asset, demolish and redevelop the site’ is laid out in Trafford council’s operational estate strategy.
Similarly, the council is due to look into the option of selling its Claremont Centre and the Chapel Road site next door, where its music service is currently situated.
The council’s operational estate strategy said the council should ‘seek to relocate the music service and dispose of the [Claremont Centre] site’.
Shawe View, currently home to a former care home now vacant, is also up for review.
The strategy said the council should ‘review the future retention/use of the property from an estates perspective and support in respect of aiming to reduce costs and overheads for these facilities’.
The plan is due to be adopted at this evening’s executive meeting – with the recommendations for the council’s property management portfolio up for discussion.
Conservative members, however, have voiced their concerns about the plans.
Following Trafford council’s budget meeting of February 17 2021, Conservative councillors requested ‘clarity’ over the council’s approved plans to delegate authority to the council’s Corporate Director of Place to ‘add to or substitute sites into the programme during the year, including any site where the anticipated capital receipt would be £500,000 or more.’
In theory, Conservative members argued, that could mean the officer could try to place any council building into a sales programme – but Coun Andrew Western, council leader, clarified that this was not the case.
He said that the only buildings up for sale were part of an approved list already earmarked for disposal.
