Plans to create six homes at Westhoughton farm have been withdrawn

Plans to build six new homes in a Westhoughton farm have been withdrawn by the applicant.

Proposals to demolish a farm house and several outbuildings at Ashcrofts Farm, in Chorley Road, and build six detached dwellings were submitted to Bolton Council on April 20.

Private car parking spaces for each dwelling would have been provided on site and the modern commercial property to the rear would have been retained for continued non-residential use or possibly converted into housing as well.

The site lies within the green belt but has previously been used for residential and commercial purposes, including as former Bolton Wanderers' physiotherapist Stuart Cosgrove's practice. It is close to a group of terraced houses opposite across Chorley Road and is located near Baxter’s Garden Centre.

The planning statement said: “The proposal seeks to achieve a truly sustainable housing development with good eco-credentials and meeting the up to date Building Regulations specifications and codes.”

Although the land is considered by the council to be in the green belt it was argued that the development would have little impact on the openness of the site and would therefore not cause any encroachment into open countryside.

However today (Tuesday May 26) a decision notice confirmed that the application has been withdrawn by the applicant.

No reasons have yet been given for the withdrawal.
