Plans to create positive futures for young people agreed by councillors

A plan to ensure that all young people in North Lanarkshire go on to positive and sustainable destinations once they leave school has been agreed by councillors.

The Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Delivery Plan 2019-21 was approved at the council’s Education and Families Committee.

This approach is supported by a number of council services as well as partners including New College Lanarkshire, Skills Development Scotland, Routes to Work, Lanarkshire Business Gateway, Developing the Young Workforce Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire and employers.

NLC’s education convener Frank McNally said: “We view this ambitious and innovate programme as an absolute priority for thecouncil.

“It’s about everyone having a shared vision to realise our goal of improving employability skills and providing sustained positive post-school destinations for all our young people. North Lanarkshire has a strong track record in delivering a curriculum which provides children and young people with skills, qualifications and experiences to enable them to succeed in learning, life and work.

“This is reflected in the increasing percentage of young people entering and sustaining positive post-school destinations and contributing to society and economic growth.”
