Plans to convert old Highland Perthshire hotel

“Ambitious” plans to convert an abandoned hotel have been submitted to the local authority.

The proposal would see parts of the Bridge of Tilt Hotel in Blair Atholl altered, extended and demolished to make way for holiday lodges.

After being closed for several years, the applicant says it would be “futile” to try and attempt to run the business, including the bar the Roundhouse Inn, as a hotel in its current state.

In a supporting statement submitted to Perth and Kinross Council, the applicant said: “It would be futile to attempt to resurrect the business in its current condition and state of repair, as it failed to succeed under many different owners.

“Being an unattractive, run down public eyesore that is bemoaned by locals and the community council, this leading to the former owner’s liquidation, it is intended for a bold and ambitious programme of refurbishment.

“Externally, the hotel is uninspiring, with two large flat roofed extensions and an ugly elongated bedroom annexe, all forming part of the principal elevation of the building.”

The applicant states the grounds around the hotel are now often used as a stopping place for lorries.

The statement continued: “As well as the demolitions and reconfigurations of the extensions to the hotel and sympathetic external modifications to the Roundhouse Inn, including attic space conversion to provide staff accommodation, we suggest that the construction of the five unit holiday cottages will bring additional revenue into the business, which in itself, will assist in the ongoing investment into the hotel business as a whole.

“These new cottages will provide a high class of accommodation for tourists in the local area.”

The lodges will be built to match the surroundings and will be energy efficient.

The plans will now be considered by planning bosses at Perth and Kinross Council.
