Plans to convert former restaurant into flats submitted

Plans to convert a former restaurant into flats have been submitted.

The premises, opposite the former Beechams building, sits at the heart of St Helens' nightclub area, on Westfield Street. The application, submitted to the council by Paul Bond, seeks permission to build two flats on the first floor of the property, above Momo's Café.

The plans state the popular café will be “unaffected by the proposed development”

A heritage statement, by planning agents Lawrenson Associates, said: “The first floor of the building was last used as a restaurant, but has now been vacant for several years.

“The proposals seek the conversion of the first floor to create two-bedroom flats, accessed via its own dedicated entrance (formerly the restaurant entrance) through the existing ground floor door arrangement directly onto Westfield Street."

The statement claims the works will have no impact on surrounding buildings, including the listed Beechams building.

It adds: "There are no external works proposed to the front elevations, therefore there will be no effect on the existing Listed Building, namely Beechams Clock Tower and Offices.”

The plans will be on standard consultation to the public until Thursday, March 30. A determination deadline has been set for May 4.
