Plans to build over 1000 homes near Leeds city centre to be scrutinsed by decision-makers

Plans to build more than 1,000 apartments near Leeds city centre have been unveiled - with the city's decision-makers to make a ruling on whether to approve them in the coming days.

Developers Rushbond and Gold & Amber want planning permission to construct five blocks at 'Leeds City Village' - ranging in height from nine to 22 storeys - on a plot of land just off Marsh Lane near Quarry Hill.

Each block at the former Marsh Lane Goods Yard will contain one, two and three bedroom flats.

The developers say there will be a total of 1,032 apartments, communal spaces and 202 parking spaces.

The 1.55 hectare site which has been earmarked for the development is brownfield land, with part of it currently being used as a car park.

The latest application comes at the same time as more plans from Gold & Amber for two big apartment blocks, which would be built just a few yards away on the other side of Shannon Street.

The developers have been discussing the plans with Leeds City Council planning officers since August 2018, but have not submitted a planning application yet.

The plans will now be scrutinised by the council's city plans panel at a meeting on Thursday, March 28.

Rushbond has undertaken a number of projects in Leeds, including the multi-million pound redevelopment of The Majestic, which will soon become the new home of Channel 4.
