Plans to build large block of student flats in Leeds set for approval

Plans to build a large block of student flats in Woodhouse are expected to be approved this month.

Developers want permission to demolish a five-storey 1970s office block in Park Lane and build a six-storey block of student flats.

Their planning application has been recommended for approval and Leeds City Council's plans panel will make a decision at a meeting on Thursday, October 31.

If approved, the red-brick building will contain nine studio apartments and 179 cluster bedrooms with shared kitchen and meeting spaces.

Developers say no car park will be built as part of the development, but there will be a secure cycle storage area that can hold up to 94 bikes.

Council planning officers, who have recommended the plans for approval, say developers are looking to use solar panels and other renewable energy sources to generate low-carbon electricity for the student flats.

Little Woodhouse Community Association and Little Woodhouse Neighbourhood Plan Forum say they would prefer housing to be built on the site, but "appreciate that this is unlikely to happen in this location".
