Plans to build houses on popular park given go-ahead by Sefton Council

Revised plans to build houses on a park in Seaforth have been given the go-ahead by Sefton Council .

The local authority previously rejected plans from One Vision Housing to build 30 homes on the piece of land known as Kings Park - but has now given permission for 21 homes (16 houses and five bungalows) to be erected.

A number of people living nearby objected to the original proposal, saying the land was one of few green spaces left where kids could play.

But the new plans include a children's play area.

Kings Park used to be the home of Montgomery House and Churchill House high rise towers, before they were demolished in 2016.

Part of the planning documents submitted by OVH state: “The area at the moment does not offer a high quality open space given that it has little to offer visually nor does it offer a significant recreational function.

“The boost to the economy arising out of the construction activity is established as being a legitimate economic contribution to sustainable development.”

A council report states: “The primary reasons for refusing the previous application was due to loss of public open space.

“The current proposal greatly reduces the loss of open space and it is considered that this is now acceptable in principle subject to securing improvements to the retained open space.

“It will consolidate the open space in one area and it would be expected that some play equipment for young children be provided to offset the loss of  equipment from when the towers were demolished.”
