Plans to build 25 affordable homes in Margam, Port Talbot

A company wants to build 25 affordable homes in Margam, Port Talbot.

CJ Construction (Wales) Ltd plans to build a mix of flats and houses with landscaping and drainage on land between Groeswen playing fields and Pant Celydd.

The Port Talbot based company wants to construct 16 one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom houses, and one three-bedroom house on the 0.38 hectare site.

If approved, the homes would be owned and managed by social landlord Tai Tarian, which owns more than 9,000 properties in Neath Port Talbot.

Planning documents show CJ Construction aims to build a new public road within the site and create parking spaces.

And documents also show the homes would likely be built using dark red bricks and grey concrete roof tiles.

The proposed development site is not within a conservation area, according to a report by LRM Planning Ltd, on behalf of CJ Construction.

Before the company submitted an application to the council, it was advised that 36 parking spaces should be included in the plans as well as cycle and bin storage and rear access to all properties.

A survey by Wildwood Ecology Limited from November 2020 found the site could be suitable for nesting birds and there is Japanese knotweed present.

There are various public sewers on the site and a trunk water main runs along its eastern boundary.

Council officers are currently assessing the plans.
