Plans submitted to transform UK theme park into ‘Center Parcs by the sea’

  • Plans have been submitted to transform the former Pleasure Island Theme Park in Cleethorpes into a £70 million resort complex, described as a “Center Parcs by the sea”.
  • The proposed development includes 272 holiday lodges, two hotels, a conference centre, a casino, a Lidl supermarket, and a drive-through coffee shop.
  • The site, which has been closed for 10 years since 2016, is expected to create over 800 construction jobs if the project proceeds.
  • The application, initially submitted in January 2023, has been recommended for approval by case officers, who believe it will support local tourism and provide an attraction for residents.
  • North East Lincolnshire Council deferred a final decision on 8 July due to a last-minute legal challenge from Tesco, following earlier objections from residents and rival supermarkets.
