Plans submitted to move bus stop so Nottinghamshire homeowner can have driveway

Plans have been submitted by a homeowner to move a bus stop in Radcliffe-on-Trent to create space for a driveway with off-road parking and an electric charging point. A man who owns the property in Bingham Road, where there is a bus stop outside his house, has put forward plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council.

He has submitted plans for that stop to be moved four metres further down the road. This would create space for a wall to be demolished and for the kerb by that wall to be dropped, so that off-road parking could be created and accessed.

The bus stop is closed at the moment because of roadworks in the area. The applicant hopes the work can be carried out before the bus stop reopens.

The bus stop is in the immediate vicinity of where the kerb is proposed to be dropped. The applicant was given pre-planning advice before submitting the application.

A highway report on the plans states that 'the illustrative plans of the dropped kerb access are acceptable', and 'the work should be completed prior to the driveway being brought into use'. It also states 'the information submitted illustrates an acceptable scheme for relocation of the bus stop pole and alterations to the raised boarding kerbs'.

In a letter to Rushcliffe Borough Council, the applicant wrote: "The bus pole was relatively recently (2020/21) re-installed by Nottinghamshire County Council after being knocked down by a courier van. I intend to re-locate it a similar distance from the utility covers.

"Contractors will carefully lift the pole from it’s current position moving it just over three metres south west along Bingham Road to the edge of the new boarding kerbs. It'll be sunk to 500mm matching the current surface which is tarmacadam."
