Plans submitted for first phase of huge housing scheme

Plans have been submitted to build 200 new homes as part of a massive housing development in Warwickshire.

The application is for up to 200 new homes in Leamington Spa.

Warwick-based Property development company AC Lloyd has submitted the outline planning application to Warwick District Council.

The scheme would be on land at the southern end of Sydenham.

The proposed development also features a public open space and an ecological habitat.

The site is the first phase of a larger area of land that was selected for new housing by to Warwick District Council in the 2017 Warwick Local Plan.

It was also earmarked for housing in the 2015 Whitnash Neighbourhood Plan.

AC Lloyd, which is based in Tatchbrook Park, held a public consultation and conducted meetings with Whitnash Parish Council ahead of submitting the application.

The application details a mix of homes, 40 per cent being classed as affordable housing.

Des Wynne, managing director of AC Lloyd Strategic Land, said: “The planning application follows two years of preparation which started with a public consultation in summer 2018, a presentation to the parish council in 2019 and a lengthy period of discussion with Warwickshire Vounty Council over the possibility of bringing an additional access to the site through the grounds of Campion School alongside the railway line.

“Those discussions are ongoing but inconclusive, so we have sought to bring forward just this first phase utilising the existing roads through Sydenham."

Mr Wynne added: “The possibility of creating a second access via the school is still our aim since we believe it would support the wider site.”

Speaking about the open space and ecological habitat elements Mr Wynne said: “As well as the new homes, the phase one proposals include over eight acres of new public open space and an ecological habitat alongside Whitnash Brook, which will both protect and significantly enhance the existing local nature reserve.”

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposals can do so via the planning portal on  to Warwick District Council's website.
