Plans submitted for a number of bus shelters along two of Dublin's busiest streets

The National Transport Authority has confirmed that plans have been submitted for a number of bus shelters at stops along two of Dublin's busiest streets.

The "high-quality" shelters will be made from stainless steel and glass and will be unique solely to O'Connell Street and Westmoreland Street.

They will provide "much needed facilities for bus passengers" while also featuring digital advertising panels sold by JCDecaux who are currently contracted with the NTA.

Dublin North West TD Noel Rock said that the announcement means soaked Dubliners might finally have somewhere to hide when the heavens open up.

He said: "On behalf of commuters like myself who have been soaked far too many times through the years, I warmly welcome this news.

“I have been lobbying the National Transport Authority (NTA) for many years now about additional bus shelters, so this is a welcome move.

“The planning permission applications which have been submitted by the NTA will see bus shelters erected on the western side of O’Connell Street, to allow shelter for people who are waiting for the bus to head home from work, socialising or after a shopping trip in town."
