Plans revealed to demolish former pub run by legendary Newport landlord and build flats

Plans to build apartments on the site of a former Newport pub have been revealed.

Castell Construction has announced it intends to apply for planning permission for a residential development of 18 apartments on the site of the former Victoria Inn on Nash Road in Lliswerry.

The proposed development constitutes a ‘major’ development which means the Welsh Government pre-application consultation procedures apply. This means residents can submit their comments and views on the proposals before a planning application is formally submitted.

Letters have been sent to residents living in the area advising them of the plans and inviting them to give their views.

As part of the plans, put forward by agents Kennedy James Griffiths on behalf of Castell, the pub building would be demolished to make way for 18 apartments as well as parking and amenity areas.

Plans show that 13 flats will be one-bed and five will be two-bed, according to documents in the proposal. There would also be 21 parking spaces, four electric charging points and space for cycle parking and bin storage.

Submissions opened on September 18 and will stay open until Saturday, October 16.

The Victoria Inn opened in its most recent form back in 2012 until it closed at the start of 2021. It was most recently run by legendary Newport publican John Pisani, who died back in April.
